The Lehigh County Conservation District’s Vector Borne Disease Control program has collected their first Lone Star Tick (Amblyomma americanum) in Lehigh County. Pictured is the adult female tick with the distinctive white dot on its dorsal shield. Lone Star Ticks are known to transmit Ehrlichiosis, Rocky Mountain Spotted fever, Tularemia, and STARI. Bites from the Lone Star tick may also trigger a red meat allergy.

Always check yourself, your children, and your pets for ticks when returning from the outdoors.
